OEM Software Utilization Audits
For software vendors and VARs, dealing with customers suspected of under licensing can be a very delicate matter. Dvergence offers independent third party audit services designed to quantify the truth without compromising the vendor/customer relationship. Our executive leadership team comes from senior management in the Big 4 Accounting and Consulting firms. They are seasoned professionals with long histories of quality client management. We support the vendor’s goals, especially where the goal is to convert a bad situation into an opportunity.
Once the vendor has negotiated an agreement to perform an audit, we will work with the customer to assure that what we do meets the customer’s security and privacy standards, within the boundaries of the vendor/customer audit license agreement. We will perform an audit of the vendor’s software, or optionally all software, to identify where and how many copies of the software are deployed and where and how the software is used. We will perform the audit for the period agreed to in the vendor/customer audit license agreement. We will utilize metrics dictated by license terms and options. This might include metrics of copies actually used, activity, time used – both active and inactive, and concurrency where concurrent licensing is a factor.
We will issue a final report to the vendor, describing the actual use of the software, during the sampling period, using the same metrics the licensing is based on (seats, named user, concurrent use, etc.). The report will include all supporting data.
In addition, we can assist you in evaluating potential for lost revenues due to licensing issues and the design of an audit program to maintain a positive customer perception while aligning with your sales strategy. This can be a challenge due to the sensitive nature of evaluating a customer while trying to maintain a good relationship. However, it can be done and is needed.
